President's
Welcome

Welcome to Northern California
When I moved from Montana to San Francisco 25 years ago, it was a huge cultural leap. My continuing education program started the day I arrived, and has not stopped since. Discovering the treasures of San Francisco on my own gave me a unique appreciation for The City - culturally, philosophically, gastronomically, behaviorally – the list goes on. The concierge desk now provides me the perfect platform to share what I’ve learned.
Helping visitors with the ‘where-to-goes’, ‘what-to-dos’, and ‘how-to-do-its’ of The City comes easily for me, because I’ve been in their shoes. I still empathize with the guest who needs to navigate our public transportation system - ‘cable cars’, ‘street cars’, MUNI, and BART, can be daunting. Helping guests make the best choices of the myriad options for dining, entertainment, amusement, and enlightenment that abound in San Francisco is my greatest challenge and reward. There truly is ‘something special for everyone’ here. The true pleasure of being a concierge is to discern what that ‘special something’ is, for each and every guest at my desk.
The Northern California Concierge Association membership consists of almost 150 like-minded people. We all have a bit of Sherlock Holmes in us – we enjoy ‘the hunt’ of finding the right answers, and providing the right solutions. Luckily for us, the universality of our guests, and the diversity of the Bay Area provide endless opportunities for sleuthing. Our monthly meetings give us the opportunity to share questions, answers, and solutions and enhance our ability to answer the next question, and find the next solution.
Welcome to San Francisco!!! On behalf of our members and membership hotels, we look forward to the privilege of serving you.

What
is a Concierge?
Once upon a time, in castles across Europe, lords and ladies
entertained lavishly. No one knows exactly when, but the position
of concierge was born out of the need for someone to take responsibility
for the host's guests' comfort. The concierge was responsible
for catering to every whim and wish of visiting nobles. He was
